The Program for Theology and Ministerial Formation (PTMF) of the Organization of
African Instituted Churches (OAIC) is designed to strengthen theological education,
develop church leadership, and enhance institutional capacity within African
Independent Churches (AICs). The program ensures that AICs receive quality
theological training while equipping leaders with the skills necessary to sustain and
grow their ministries.
Objectives of PTMF
1. Enhancing Capacity to Provide Quality Theological Education – Expanding
access to structured theological training programs tailored to the needs of AICs.
2. Mobilizing & Supporting Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) on Children’s Ministry –
Strengthening Sunday school teaching by training educators and developing relevant
resources.
3. Enhancing Leadership and Institutional Capacity of AICs – Building governance
frameworks and leadership skills to ensure the sustainability of AICs.
Enhancing Theological Education
PTMF works to increase the accessibility and quality of theological education by:
– Providing structured training through Theological Education by Extension (TEE)
programs.
– Developing theological documentation that preserves and promotes AIC theology
and traditions.
– Strengthening partnerships with academic institutions such as the University of
KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) to support postgraduate theological education.
– Training theological educators to expand the reach and impact of AIC theological
programs.
Supporting Trainers of Trainers (TOTs) in Children’s Ministry
To ensure effective children’s ministry, PTMF focuses on:
– Training Sunday School teachers to improve the quality of faith education for
children.
– Developing structured curricula that align with AIC theological teachings and
cultural contexts.
– Overcoming challenges such as a shortage of trained educators and inadequate
teaching materials.
– Encouraging parental involvement to reinforce religious education beyond church
settings.
Strengthening Leadership and Institutional Capacity
PTMF equips AIC leaders with essential skills to sustain their churches by:
– Providing governance and leadership training to improve decision-making and
church administration.
– Developing strategic planning and fundraising initiatives to enhance financial
sustainability.
– Facilitating forums for church leaders to discuss and implement institutional
renewal strategies.
